CTIA-The Wireless Association® Selects WMC Global
for Common Shortcodes Media Monitoring |
Collaboration Protects Wireless Environment for Everyone |
FAIRFAX, VA, June 15, 2009—WMC Global (WMC) announced today its selection by CTIA-The Wireless Association® as the chosen vendor to commence in-market monitoring of third-party content providers’ advertising of PSMS programs, such as ringtones, wallpapers, games, videos, text alerts, and other premium content downloadable to the wireless handset. This initiative, developed by CTIA, under the direction of the U.S. wireless carriers, aims to ensure that content providers operating on the carriers’ networks comply with a common set of standards, the industry’s Consumer Best Practices.
“At WMC, we’re pleased to have another opportunity to employ our state-of-the-art media monitoring systems and processes to assist all participants in the wireless marketplace,” declared WMC president and COO Ian Matthews. “Everyone wins when PSMS programs and related advertising campaigns adhere to industry standards.”
WMC was established in 2006 in response to an early PSMS market seeking to establish oversight to protect the U.S. carriers and their subscribers from noncompliant advertising practices and questionable programs operating on the carrier networks. This common shortcode media monitoring effort reflects WMC’s continued focus on safeguarding the PSMS environment and serving the interests of the consumer community while, at the same time, helping protect wireless carrier from legal and operational liabilities. The company’s selection to deliver this industry-wide solution resulted from a technical and commercial evaluation by a committee of representatives from every major U.S. carrier and CTIA.
